On April 5th, the Evanston Art Center will open an exhibition celebrating the works of the late Victoria Yau (1939- 2023), a long-time resident of Evanston and one of the earliest Asian-American contemporary abstract artists. Born in Shanghai in 1939, Yau worked across a variety of media, including ink, watercolor, and multimedia collages. This exhibition will showcase a broad range of her works, highlighting her dedication to her craft, and was curated by Emma Rose Gudewicz, EAC's Director for Development and Exhibitions, with an accompanying essay written by Northwestern PhD candidate Sihan Wang.
Yau has recently had her work exhibited at Qualia Contemporary Arts, The Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University (Permanent Collection), Pen+Brush (NYC), and Stanford Center for East Asian Studies.
The exhibition will also coincide with the dedication of the Maker Lab for Digital Media room in her honor. In addition to being a prolific artist, Yau volunteered at the Evanston Art Center in the 1970s, contributing her time and talents to help further the center’s mission.

This exhibition will be held in the Second Floor Main & Atrium Gallery of the Evanston Art Center (EAC). Masks are optional but strongly recommended for students, visitors, and staff.
