Course Description:

Knowledge of anatomy is essential for artists to depict the human form convincingly in portraiture, figurative, historical, and genre paintings.

Each class will begin with a lecture to explain and clarify the anatomical information.  Students will then draw from the live model incorporating the lessons of the day and learn to interpret anatomical subtleties from life.  Charcoal, red and white chalk will be used to depict the figure without skin or 'ecorche'. The body will be studied in sections: torso, arm, leg, and head.  The function and form of bones, muscles, and tendons will be explained.  Anatomical landmarks, origins and insertions of muscles, and surface anatomy will be covered.
