Ten-week class beginning March 26, 2025
Course Description:
This class welcomes students new to screen printing as well as those who want to deepen their skills. From preparation of screen to printed project, students will come away from this class with understanding and know-how for this ancient but ever-adapting printmaking form.
We will learn the equipment and techniques that began in China with the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD) and that Andy Warhol modernized and celebrated in his iconic diptych of Marilyn Monroe 800 years later. Using a mix of techniques and tools, analog and/or digital, students will produce screen stencils and play with images, colors, and layers. They will come away with finished projects meaningful to them—whether editions of prints on paper or designs on personalized clothing.
Students mostly need to bring only their curiosity. Screens, emulsions, inks, and newsprint are provided in studio. Archival paper for final editions is available for purchase. Some knowledge of Procreate or similar is helpful but by no means required.
Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate
