Embodied Metaphors: Tapping into the Poetry of the Self with Movement and Guided Imagery
October 15, 2023, 1:00-3:00 PM RSVP
Description: This workshop, led by interdisciplinary artist Connie Noyes draws inspiration from the art of Butoh, renowned for its emotional intensity and theatrical distortions. We will use physical movement and gestures to express and understand abstract concepts or emotions by connecting body sensations and postures with symbolic representations of these inner experiences. Participants will be encouraged to tap into the poetry of the self and the body's innate creativity and wisdom as a tool for exploration and imaginative play -- exploring, tension, contrast of opposites, and distortion, and expressing emotions, memories, or thoughts through guided imagery and symbolic gestures. Through this process, participants will gain a deeper understanding of their inner landscape, providing insight into the tender spaces within the body. This workshop, "Embodied Metaphors," offers a valuable technique to explore and process internal experiences in a holistic and transformative way.
All bodies are welcome, and no experience with movement is required. The workshop will celebrate and honor the unique journey of each participant, guiding you safely with the synergy of music, sound, and imagination.
Bring a notebook or sketchbook, simple drawing materials will be provided. Wear loose-fitting clothes that allow for easy movement.
