Sophie is a visual artist with a focus on ceramic sculpture. She studied classical figurative sculpture for her BFA. After college, she sculpted for the commercial design industry for many years, most notably Hasbro Toy Inc. in Rhode Island. Currently, she makes abstract ceramic sculpture and exhibits in galleries around the Chicago area.

Primarily, clay. Familiar with plaster, wax, industrial clay, mold-making, cement, resin, wood and stone carving, light carpentry, cardboard, paper, mixed media.
Areas of focus:
Sophie's sculpture is usually abstract or organic in form. She uses clay coils to "weave" her sculptures, focusing on pattern and movement.

Other interests and inspirations:
She is passionate about elementary education and worked for many years as a literacy coach, in both math and reading, for K-5. She was born in Europe and enjoys learning about other cultures and art forms. She currently lives in Evanston with her husband, kids, and dog.

She is supportive of her students' creative vision and helps them to achieve their goals by carefully listening and working with them to design their project for maximum success. She strives to create an inclusive studio atmosphere. Creatively, she is knowledgeable, inventive, and versatile.
